Underwater Welding Jobs
When you become a commercial diver you can expect to only get underwater welding jobs. There are many aspects of the marine construction industry that you will be involved in. Do not let this deter you though there are many tasks you will make more money at, then when you are on most underwater welding jobs. Once you realize this and take it for what it is you will stay busy. You will get on plenty of underwater jobs do not worry. However, if you try to pass on work just because it does not involve underwater welding you are going to starve. As far as actually finding the work there are a few different ways you can go about it. Usually when you get out of dive school you will be given a list of companies to contact. Be cautious though, many of the companies are not quality they will put the screws to you in an instant. I am not saying all of these companies are bad I'm just saying there are commercial dive companies out there pray on nieve divers just out of school. Usually the companies that seem like they are not ever hiring are the good ones. Be persistent keep calling eventually they will get a lot of work an will not be able to man all the dive jobs. This is when your persistence will pay off cause they will have your name in the back of their head. Probably the best way to go , in my opinion , is to locate your local union hall ,most likely a carpenter's or pile driver's union. When you get hooked up with these guys you got it made, insurance, retirement and a livable wage. You will soon relize that most dive jobs are just as good as underwater welding jobs.
Good Luck, and remember your persistence will pay off, literally.
